Why did I go back on Google & Android

I got back to my Galaxy Note (first version) for fun with a brand new ROM... And I think i'm not going back to my Lumia 920 :)

Applications & Marketplace

As you know, the Windows Phone 8 ecosystem is currently very poors, there isn't many applciations as there is on Android, and the ones that exists are not features as the Android one or buggy (Yes, Spotify !)
Also, the feature that allows you to remotely install an application from your computer using the marketplace web interface don't work 90% of the time.

IT Tools

This is simple, there is just nothing for IT on Windows Phone...
Where are the VPNs ?
Where are the tools from Cisco ? (Community forum application etc.)

Xbox Music vs Spotify

Xbox Music is great on Windows phone, but only on this platform.
The Xbox Music applications on other platforms are terrible (Windows 8...), and they don't even exists for other OS or older versions of Windows, this is just unacceptable (What if I want to listen to my music at work on my W7 computer ?).

Skydrive vs Google Drive

Skydrive is clearly not at the level of Google Drive or Dropbox.
Speeds are slow at both downloading and uploading, there is not versioning and the client application on Windows is kinda buggy, I have a lot of crash with it and many issue when I have to restart it for it to continue to sync.
Never had this kind of issue with Dropbox and Google Drive

Office 365 vs Google Apps

Okay.... Microsoft... The last update of Office 365 for Offic 2013 is just horrible. The administration interface has just lost 90% of it's features, you can't even set users group or aliases from the web interface and have to go into Powershell to do this !
Even the (ex)Free Google Apps plan does better !

Tethering

The tethering on my Lumia has never worked, it always drop the wifi connection between my laptop and my mobile phone...
Why don't WP8 supports others type of tethering like Bluetooth and USB ?

Openness

That's it, I love to flash my phone using different roms to have a system that is made for me !

What I will miss

Unified user experience : Having everywhere the same interface guideline if great and very pleasant.

Interface responsiness : No more to say... The Windows Phone interface never has slowdowns or freezes. Android is sluggish in comparison to Windows Phone

Camera : The purpose of lens is great, this allows you to extends the camera apps with great features (like manual focus, HDR, etc.). And of course the awesomeness of the Lumia 920 lens :)

Xbox Live: Well, this is personal but I really love my Xbox live avatar !

So, i'm back on Android ;)

Why I should leave Apple and come back to PC's

I'm currently using Apple stuff for years, I began with an iPhone 3G, then a white Macbook, and iPhone 4S then a Macbook Pro (i7), and i'm working in IT (System & Network Administration, and some development with Python and Java).

At the begin of my Apple'isation of was thinking that this platform was really the best for IT, because it was providing the best user experience available here with a mix of Unix stuff.

But more the time pass, more Apple leaves the pro's, and more the time pass, more the pro's leave Apple, making professionals software less available on this platform.

I have in my job the occasion to manage both Unix, Linux, Cisco, Juniper and Windows stuff, when I have to connect with SSH I have absolutely no problems, but when it come the time to connect to some Windows stuff (more and more frequent on corporate environments) it come really hard per exemple to type special characters with the non standard Apple keyboard (I'm using French keyboard, I don't know if this problem is real for QWERTY keyboards).

Another example is, when you are using OS X, you are a second class citizen for proprietary corporate software, like the CRM and huge softwares likes this, or simply security softwares like the Juniper Junos VPN Client, not available on anything else than Microsoft Windows.

And this is just one example, for other exemple I have some excellents softwares that are no equivalents on OS X platform for System Administration like "Devolution Remote Desktop Manager" or SecureCRT (The Mac Os X version is not good as the Windows version).

And of course on Windows you have the .NET framework that provides universals languages and APIs to develop on with Client Side and Server Side, a great advantage for corporates environments, this is clearly the best runtime environment available here, providing both excellent user experience for final applications and developers (Visual Studio is not bad), and a great way to develop Web Site that can easily be integrated with your Active Directory domain, here too it's a good point for corporate environment and passionate developers that want to have ONE language and ONE framework without having to take the bloated, ugly Java.
Yes, I'm thinking about going to .NET for times, but being on a Mac and using Mac Os X is a break !

There are just some examples between tons of others. I think today Mac's a no more adapted to I.T.

This is why, more the time pass, I seriously think about leaving Apple and to come back to PC's (Thinkpad maybe) and Microsoft stuff that are today, for me, the best platform for I.T.
(Yes, I miss being the first platform for I.T, the first platform for gaming, the best platform for .NET development, I miss Active Directory, GPO, SQL Server, IIS and other corporate stuff)

(Installed Windows on the Macbook solve some of these problems, but not all (Keyboard incompatibility with remote desktop, some bugs with Bootcamp)
